Southern Africa

Overview

The countries of southern Africa are diverse and fascinating. We may be biased since we have been living in South Africa for the last 6 years, but there’s a lot to love about this part of the world.  Most recently we have done a couple of trips with the kids in South Africa and Namibia, and Pete has taken small groups through Namibia, Botswana & Zambia.

As an overland travel destination, southern Africa is both well developed in terms of campsites and facilities (including overland tour companies and vehicle hire companies for self drive) and also has lots and lots to see, so it’s well worth putting it on your list.  Chat to us about suggested itineraries and recommended overland tour companies and vehicle hire companies for your southern Africa adventure.

Wildlife

Southern Africa is well known as a wildlife safari destination, and there are some incredible national parks and wildlife reserves to visit. Top of our list - South Luangwa National Park in Zambia, but we have enjoyed fantastic wildlife experiences in all the parks we have visited!

Vineyards in Stellenbosch

Wine tasting

South Africa is the 9th largest producer of wine in the world, and there are some excellent wines to be enjoyed at the southern tip of Africa. Our favourite areas to taste wine are Stellenbosch, the Hemel en Aarde Valley in Hermanus and the Stanford wine route.

Wide open spaces

If you are looking for solitude and space, Namibia is a great place to go. The harsh beauty of the desert is captivating and fascinating. It's also a country that's very easy to travel round yourself, with great campsites and plenty of great attractions to visit.
